Empowering Your Lab with a Proactive Approach

Oct 30, 2017 | Blogs, Software, Technology | 0 comments

Do you stay in the lab day and night, waiting for a sample run to finish? Or do you set your instrument to run and trust that it will operate as intended while you are away? Is there a way you can have a support network behind you to help to ensure the smooth operation of your instruments?

There most certainly is. With StatusScope Remote Monitoring, you can securely connect to your lab from anywhere, to stay ahead of potential errors.

Don’t Take Our Word for It
Recently, our support desk was alerted to a situation in which remote monitoring data showed a lab’s room temperature at 35˚ C. While a mass spec can run at this temperature, is still considered warm.

Our team immediately alerted the customer to the potential issue. It turns out, as they were fixing their HVAC system, their lab temperature increased. Increased lab temperatures are a not an ideal environment for operating a mass spec and often can result in workflow interruption.

Without the StatusScope service, this lab would not be alerted and would only be aware of the situation if they were actively observing their operation.

StatusScope Service Must-Haves
Today’s StatusScope service alerts go beyond “your system is not working.” You can now receive new alarms, simplified status lights to avoid confusion and ever-important support for your systems.

In the example above, an instrument issue was detected—an increased ambient temperature, that could interrupt workflow, even if the instrument is running fine. With StatusScope service, workflow interruption warnings will alert you of such instances.

Intelligent alarms go a step further by sending you alerts if your instrument is down or whether there is an issue that could cause a failure in the short-term.

Streamlined error codes, on the other hand, make it easy to identify the issue as the SCIEX Technical Support team will receive instant alerts. Working in tandem with your lab, we can try a remote fix or schedule a service call. Up to 50% of issues can be fixed remotely, so you can potentially save time getting your instrument up and running again.

Finally, simplified status indicators display critical information, including:

  • Disconnected: Asset is disconnected and not reporting to our servers
  • Failure: We have identified a failure or indications of possible future failure
  • Good: System is connected, reporting and ready to run
  • Running: System is acquiring data

StatusScope Service is Workflow Focused
Today’s mass spec service goes beyond phone calls and subsequent site visits. It is more about empowering your lab to react and remedy issues as quickly as possible proactively.

The new alarms and warnings available with the StatusScope service help you eliminate the risk that ties with instrument downtime by reducing the time to resolution.

With the StatusScope service you can:

  • Access throughput and asset utilization reports
  • Essential insights to understand how often any one instrument, no matter its location, is available for use and running based on an instrument’s operating parameters
  • Minimize downtime. Up to 50 percent of support cases can be resolved without a service engineer visit.

Is “right first time, every time” a pipedream for metabolite identification by LC-MS?

If we lived in an ideal world, it would be possible to unambiguously identify metabolites using a single analytical experiment. This analytical technique would need to be efficient and easily generate the information needed from a routine assay that is also robust, enabling confident decision-making during drug discovery.

Supporting new CRISPR gene editing systems

Prime editing (PE) is a next-generation gene editing technology that utilizes a Cas9 protein fused to a prime editing guide ribonucleic acid (pegRNA) to achieve high CRISPR/Cas9 editing efficiency and precision. However, the length requirement of pegRNAs at 120–250 nucleotides (nt) and their high level of secondary structure formation present analytical challenges for the purity analysis of chemically synthesized pegRNAs during development and quality control (QC).

A new approach for comprehensive AAV evaluation including full and empty analysis

Certain next-gen vaccines and gene therapy applications rely on the usage of adeno-associated viruses (AAV) as a delivery vehicle. To ensure the safety and efficacy of viral vector drugs, multiple critical quality attributes (CQAs) need to be well characterized.
